We all have gotten an oil change before, and we all know the importance of an oil change. In case you forgot, the engine oil is meant to keep the engine clean and helps remove heat. We all know the process, go to the repair shop, leave your vehicle, pay, and go on with our lives. Do you know what type of oil your vehicle takes? Granted, our job is to know that for you, but we also like to keep our customers informed. Every vehicle takes one of the following oil types.
Full Synthetic Oil
The only oil type that is becoming increasingly popular is fully synthetic oil. More and more vehicles being manufactured today are taking full synthetic oil. This oil type is cheaper and widely manufactured. The main difference between conventional and fully synthetic oil is that fully synthetic oil has fewer impurities in it. This allows for better heat absorption and performance of the oil. Most synthetic oil is required to be changed every 6,000 to 10,000 miles.
Semi-Synthetic Oil
Semi-synthetic oil, or synthetic blend oil, is a combination of conventional oils and synthetically crested additives to help with oxidation resistance. This oil is common among vehicles that want a step up from the conventional but don’t need full synthetic oil. It was created to increase the benefits of the conventional oil change but at a lower cost to consumers than the fully synthetic oil. This type of oil should be replaced every 5,000 to 7,000 miles.
Conventional Oil
Conventional oil is the basic standard of oil that most vehicles take. This was the first type of oil available for vehicles and was the most widely used for the longest time. The benefits of conventional oil is that it is the cheapest of all the oil types, and it is widely available. The downsides of conventional oil is that it has more impurities in it and requires replacement every 3,000 to 4,000 miles. Now a days, some shops have stopped stocking conventional oil since most vehicles are able to take fully synthetic oil.
